Antique Edwardian Era 14K Gold & 1/4 ct. Old Mine Cut Diamond 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masonic Ring, Circa 1913in Preowned Condition
This antique, Edwardian Era Scottish Rite Masonic ring was presented to an extremely high-ranked, 32nd Degree Mason. The ring features an old mine cut diamond set in solid 14 karat gold, at the center of the double-headed eagle, Scottish Rite emblem. The diamond measures ≈ 4.00 x 3.85 x 2.33mm and weighs ≈ 1/4 carat. It is very good quality, grading I color and VS1 clarity. The ring also displays wonderful hand-chased detailing, as well as multicolor enameling in black, red, white, and green. On one shoulder of the ring, the Rose Croix (or Rosy Cross) is displayed in red, white, and green. The Rose Croix is said to have predated Christianity, with the Cross representing the human body and the rose symbolizing the individual\'s unfolding consciousness. On the opposite shoulder of the ring, an Equilateral Triangle is enameled in black, above the number 32. The Equilateral Triangle is symbolic of Deity and Perfection. It is comprised of three 60° angles, and three sides of equal length. The Equilateral Triangle is considered to be the most perfect of figures, representing The Great First Cause, the Creator and Container of all things. The number 32 represents the 32nd Degree of Freemasonry, which is the highest level a Mason can achieve without being granted the Honorary 33rd Degree. The 32° is also known as the Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret.A Mason cannot apply for the 33rd Degree. The thirty-third, and final degree of Freemasonry, is an honorary degree bestowed upon 32° Masons who have showed exceptional leadership in their community. It cannot be applied for, and is given only to those who exemplify the Brotherhood of man under the Fatherhood of God. He must be no younger than 33 years of age, and has to have been selected by the Deputy of his state. At an Annual Meeting of the Supreme Council, he may be elected a Sovereign Grand Inspector General of the Thirty-Third and Last Degree, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council.Lastly, the ring is hallmarked \"14K\" and has a hand-engraving on the inside of the shank that reads, \"Charles J. Papenbrock, whom virtue unites, death cannot separate. March 25, 1913\". Charles J. Papenbrock was born ≈ 1874, which would have made him approximately 39 years old when he achieved the 32° of Masonry.
