The Pictorial Game of Alice In Wonderland

This exceptional set of the famous cards made by De La Rue circa. 1898, was based upon Lewis Carroll’s famous book, “Alice in Wonderland.” The designs used in the cards are those made by Sir John Tenniel for the original publication of the book in 1865, as those designs were later adapted (rendered in colour) by Gertrude Thomson for an edition apparently published in 1896.
The card game originally consisted of 48 cards, 47 of which are still present. Further details, including the rules of the game can be found at the website of the Victoria & Albert Museum, England. The cards measure approximately 90mm x 62mm, and come in the original telescopic-type box.
The cards have been enjoyed over the past century, so expect to see some creases and minor damage to most of them. One of the appears to have been torn in half and has historical tape repair, but remains stable and playable. The box is in fair to good condition considering the age of the set.
The beautifully printed colour illustrations are truly outstanding!
