Absolutely gorgeous continental European devotional santos statue of the virgin Mary with the baby Jesus, crowned with a removable crown made from what appears to be pressed tin and painted. The entire piece is wonderfully executed, fully carved with extraordinary detailing throughout - especially the eyes, and faces and Mary's hair which I've tried to capture in the listing photos.
There has been some overall fading as well as losses to the base as well as some other bits which is to be expected based on the age of this piece. Almost certainly continental European, probably Southern European based on a few elements.
The crown is removable for transportation and storage - there's a very small pin size insertion hole in the reverse of Mary's head that allows for easy insertion. I've photographed it separately as well.
