Antique 1831 The DeWitt Clinton Steam Locomotive Sampler / Needlework. It was the first working steam locomotive in New York State, operated by Mohawk & Hudson railroad. The locomotive was scrapped in 1833, but the New York Central Railroad built a replica for display at the Columbian Exposition in 1893. This replica was purchased by Henry Ford in 1934, and it has been on display at his museum ever since.
This sampler is a very nice example of early american folk art.
