Wonderful bronze IBIBIO Skull Crest Mask.
The IBIBIO live in an area around the Cross river in Nigeria, stretching in the East across the borders into Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.They are headed by a traditional leader called IKPAISONG who was assisted by members of the EKPO society. The members are messengers of the spirits who wore this mask for the blessing of the Gods for a good harvest, fertility and prosperity, but also as protection against evil spirits.
Beautifully made, with plenty of details. It has a beautiful dark gray, greenish patina.
This bronze is of high quality and was made with the - cire perdue technique- , and is therefore unique in its kind. Beautifully finished off in detail.
Good condition, but with signs of use and normal holes of cast glitches. Please study the photos well.
