RARE AUTHENTIC 19th Century Native American BEADED MEDICINE BAG, TOBACCO POUCH  For Sale

This 19th century medicine bag was in the collection of my Great Grandfather. He lived in Denver, Colorado until his death in 1932. Family lore has it that this medicine bag was given to him around 1900 by a friend who was Native American. As the photos show, this bag was not made for the tourist trade, but was a well-used personal item. It is made of buckskin with a cotton drawstring, and has been inexpertly resewn by the original owner near the top. The beading is much more elaborate than is generally seen, and in near perfect condition except for small area of bead fringe at the bottom.
The bag measures 5\" long x 3.5\" wide. The drawstring is broken. The bag\'s overall condition and style suggest that it dates from the mid to late 19th century. The signature of the artist can be seen in the one blue bead in an otherwise white border (photo #5). The tribal affiliation of the artist is unknown, although my grandmother thought he/she might have been Cheyenne. I do not know on what information she based that identification. As an art historian, I can only say at this point that the medicine bag is authentic Plains Indian Native American from the 19th century, and has been in our family for over 100 years.
