This Listing is for a: SCARCE 3D Raised-Relief Moon Map of the MARE NECTARIS and VICINITY. The Apollo 11 Landing Area. This comes from the Estate of WWII Major General William Levine.
Originally purchased from the Estate Sale of Major GeneralWilliam P. Levine. He served in Europe as an officerin the 34 AAA group during World War II and was there on both D-Day and theliberation of Dachau. The Mare Nectaris Map was hanging on the wall in hisroom that was filled with memorabilia of his career. It was saleed from his wall of his den. There\'s an excellent video on YouTube titled: Major General William P. Levine Oral History - Remembering.
This map is almost 53 years old and in ORIGINAL condition as it was purchased from the Estate Sale. The frame has some nicks & scratches, but the map itself is in excellent condition. Left unprotected, these vintage vacuum formed maps degrade quickly, become brittle, crack and fade. These maps appear from time to time on and are considered scarce. Most aren\'t framed and as such, suffer from the ill effects of time and handling.
These are beautiful pieces from a bygone era. Now that the United States has recommitted to returning to the Moon, these maps as well as other lunar maps of this era will only appreciate in value. This one is ready to hang in your den or office, just like mine. The Apollo 11 landing area is located in the upper center portion of the map (See photo 7, close-up). The crater is called Sabine and the lunar module Eagle landed in the \"D\" region. THIS MAP COMES WITH HISTORICAL PROVENANCE. Included is the COA from the Charles Scott Gallery from where I purchased it.
