This is a super Grimwades of Staffordshire WW1 Bruce Bairnsfather “Old Bill” Bowl with a beautiful Scalloped edge with the picture captioned“Where did that one go to?” to the centre. The bowl measures approximately 13.5cm in diameter and is in good condition with a little age-related wear but no cracks or restoration. It does have some crazing, mainly to the reverse and the odd imperfection usually found on these war time pieces.
The reverse bears the Grimwades Winton Globe backstamp with a Crown above.
Captain (Charles) Bruce Bairnsfather (09/07/1887 – 29/09/1959) was a prominent British humourist and cartoonist who created ‘Fragments from France’ cartoons published weeklyin "The Bystander" magazine during the First World War.
Towards the end of 1917 thepublishers of The Bystander granted Grimwades Limited of Stoke on Trent, exclusive permission to reproduce a limited number of ‘Fragments from France’ cartoons on items from their war time pottery range.
