SIAM GALLERY Co. INVESTMENT LEVEL ANTIQUITIES, COLLECTIBLES, AND DECORATIVE ART BURMA. CAMBODIA. CHINA. INDIA. INDONESIA. JAPAN. LANKA. LAO. THAILAND. Antique Bronze Meditating Ayutthaya Buddha Amulet, Mon Dvaravati Influence. Solid Bronze Cast. Circa: 19th Century.

Description: An exceptional antique amulet of Copper alloy, acquired from a temple precinct in the old Ayutthaya city of north central Thailand. Sculpted in the form of a meditating Buddha, the figure was primarily cast from a special process of \'smelting\' metal, in accordance with the Buddhist Scripture of mixing \'magic\' metals - a highly valuable composition for making supernatural amulets, with each type of metal having their own unique characteristics that provide important design elements in the overall construction. The primary ingredience here being \'Copper\' (90%) and \'Tin\' (10%), obtained from the smelting of sacred metals and religious artifact fragments. Several holy minerals were than added in completing the purity of the metal - for instance black mercury from Laos, Nampy Steel from Prasaeng pond in Utaradit province, and the most sacred and important rare mineral was Chaonamngern (Blue Metal) found only in some heavily wooded areas in the mountainous regions of Thailand.

In addition, prior to the actual manufacturing of these sacred Amulets - magic letters and drawings are created according to ancient holy scriptures, established by master Buddhist Monks; along with extensive ceremonial prayer, practiced by the gathering of several temple monks, by which is said to enhance the power of the amulet with invincible and psychic powers. After production of the amulet - they are blessed and consecrated through infinte virtues and supreme meditative powers.

Image Details: Sacred Temple Amulet of a meditating Ayutthaya Buddha, displaying Mon Dvaravati influence, depicted seated coss-legged in the \'Vajrasana\' pose with both soles of the feet pointed upwards. The hands overlap one another displaying the \'Dhyana\' mudra, the attainment of spiritual perfection, and the concentration on good law, gesture. The symmetrically arranged figure is modeled with a somewhat flattened profile, dressed in monks attire with the robe covering both shoulders. The diaphanous garment itself is simplistic in design, draped over the arms, hint of a belt at the waist shown at the front and curved at the back . xxxx The face is portrayed with a refine remote appearance with almond-shaped eyes lowered in meditation, arched eyebrows join in the middle above a prominent nose, a well shaped mouth with an insipid smile, and elongated earlobes rest at the shoulders. The head is covered in large hair curls surmounted by a domed-shaped \'Ushnisha\'. The surface has a naturally aged oxidized patina of green malachite developing throughout.

Thai people believe this particular image is especially powerful in securing great wealth and fortune for its owner or possessor.
