This medal dates from the Canonization of the Saint in1670.This is a vestment medal with two holes on the bail. The top hole is forthe neck chain the other is for a second ring. The second ring and chainprevented forward movement of the medal away from the chest.
Francis Borgia SJ (1510 -- 30 September 1572) was aSpanish Jesuit priest. The great-grandson of Pope Alexander VI, he was Duke ofGandía and a grandee of Spain. After the death of his wife, Borgia renouncedhis titles and became a priest in the Society of Jesus, later serving as itsthird superior general. He was canonized on 20 June 1670 by Pope Clement X. Onthe back is Archangel Gabriel pulling souls out of purgatory as theirpunishment ends.

In addition, this book has chapters(outlined in the table of contents), describing each of the categories ofmedals, their possible place of pilgrimage (acquisition), and origin of themint where they were made. We recommend that anyone serious about collectingmedals from this period acquire a copy of this book.
