They are danced in honor dignitaries, to celebrate the harvest and for periods of mourning. A slice of inner tube rubber is used as face strap. This particular mask is missing the teeth stick used to hold mask in place during dance. The extra depth of the mask which is covered during the dance further distinguishes this mask as a functional rather than a decorative mask.
