A STUNNING WILLIAM IV INLAYED ROSEWOOD SARCOPHAGUS SEWING/WORK BOX


Offered for sale is this large and very attractive antique early 19th centuryWilliamIV (circa 1830 to 1837) sarcophagusshaped rosewood veneered sewing/workbox, having mother ofpearl and pewter inlay to the lid and front edges and mother of pearlescutcheon andcartouche, brass ring side carrying handles and square bun feet; allhaving a super original patina,


Internally there is a compartment lift out tray have various compartments for cotton reels, needles etc.

The original brass stop hinges and lock are present, where the lock is in working order with a key provided. Theoriginalpaper lining to the base is present, see photos. The photos show the wood colour to be a bit \"orangey\" this is due to the flash photography, in real life the wood colour is a bit darker. Please note that the black markings on the external wood finish are not repairs/cracks or filler it tis the natural grain of the rosewood.

Please take time to study the photographs in order to gain an appreciation of this attractive antique caddy.


Condition of the external is quite exceptional considering the age of the box and use, having no major damage, cracks, chips or missing/lose veneer or mother of pearl inlay.The internalliningsarecommensuratewith age and use and are distressed with wear and rips to the materials, see photos.Please see photographs for overallcondition.
