This beautiful Olympia SM7 Deluxe was made in Western Germany in 1961 by Olympia Werke AG Wilhelmshaven (serial no. 1959204). It is finished in a rare mint blue paint, chrome accents and white keys which, as you can see in the pictures, it\'s in great condition for it\'s age. The exterior has been carefully cleaned, polished, and waxed to help preserve it for generations to come. More importantly, it’s great condition mechanically as it’s been tested and is functional. The keys strike with snap, the carriage moves with ease, the bell rings brightly, and it types beautifully! It even comes with the original carrying case and Olympia branded cleaning/care kit.
With the debut of the SM7, Olympia shifted from the smooth curves of the SM2-SM5 to the sleek lines of the next generation of the renowned SM (Schreibmaschine Mittelgroß or “Medium-size Typewriter\") line. The SM7 is our favorite from this generation as it has the refined functionality of the SM9s from decades of typewriter expertise in a more compact and aesthetically pleasing form.
This German-made machine is noted for its unparalleled design, engineering and are known for their fine build quality and dependability. This typewriter is extremely solid, well-made, and is a reliable workhorse that ideal for frequent typing yet still provides good response and response. It produces consistently bright type across the alphabet. It has spring loaded keys, which may explain why it produces such consistent results. Part of the key strike is done by the machine, for a satisfying feeling of productivity. The key tops feel rounded and slick that have just the right amount of concave to them, which makes a nice fit for your fingers, giving you an ergonomic efficiency. The carriage return lever has a nice contour to it, so a variety of hands can find the sweet spot.
Some famous users of Olympia Typewriters are Woody Allen, Ryan Adams, Harlan Ellison, Patricia Highsmith, Philip K. Dick, James Michener, Don Delillo, Frank Herbert, John Hughes, Ingeborg Bachmann, John Nichols, Anais Nin, Robert Penn Warren, Kevin McGowin, Stan Laurel, Tom Hanks, John Updike, Carson McCullers, Paddy Chayesfsky, Evan Connell, Louis L’Amour, and more I\'m quite sure.
