Vintage 1930s Cocktails
A scarce and early, original, small mixology publication in very nice condition.
Unable to locate another on the web. Apparently self-published. Rare. And perfect for your collection.
Excellent condition; Beautiful, old, sturdy, miniature/little pocket-sized cocktail and advertising booklet, with compliments of:
LAKE SHORE LIQUEURS: Wines - Liqueurs - Cordials
3167 Broadway; phone Buckingham 3338; We Capone was credited with having said, \"When I sell liquor, it\'s called bootlegging; when my patrons serve it on Lake Shore Drive, it\'s called hospitality.\"
LAKE SHORE LIQUEURS. This booklet likely originated from old Chicago. The address on Broadway near Lake Shore Drive fits an existing old building in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, visible through Google street view. And Chicago had a Buckingham phone prefix, back in the copyright date; phone number indicates this is an early item; measures about 2-1/4 x 3-7/8\"; strong and tight and clean; with some light soiling to covers; a few tiny bends and creases; lightly rusty staples; small font, lightly printed in places but legible; no unpleasant odors; nice quality textured pages (similar to that found in Judge, Jr. Here\'s How books) and orange card stock covers; lightly age-toned; unpaginated; 16 printed pages and covers.
A toast on each page. Illustrated cover. Over 30 unique old mixed drink recipes are found (mostly) alphabetically and include:
Alexander, Applejack Special, Bacardi Special, Between the Sheets, Brace Up, Brandy Cocktail (Fancy), Bronx, Champagne Cocktail, Clover Leaf Cocktail, Corpse Reviver, Fallen Angel, Golden Fizz, Fizz New Orleans or Silver Fizz, Fizz Royal, Frappe Absinthe, Manhattan, Martini (Dry), Mint Julep, Monkey Gland, Old-fashioned, Punch Holiday (5 gallon mixture for 100 people), Sazarac, Side Car, Stinger, Suiesse, Toddy (Old Fashioned), Tom Collins 6, Tom and Jerry, Whiskey Irish Hot, Whiskey Sour, Pick-me-up (To Sober you up with).
\"Monkey Gland,\" recipe included. Research indicates the Monkey Gland cocktail may have been invented in the 1920s during Prohibition so this booklet could be an early post-prohibition era item (if not earlier).
