THE LAST PRECIOUS FEW PIPES
After listing my pipe collection on , itβs time to part with the favorites - my Ashtons by Bill Taylor, my Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end pieces. Any of these that donβt sell, I will gladly keep.
The ultimate Ferndown custom pipe, the best in my collection β¦
FERNDOWN / LES WOOD CLASSIC REO (RED) FINISH BENT BULLDOG *** (3 star size) ESTATE PIPE W/ ORIGINAL (NOT REPAIR) HEAVY ORNATE STERLING SILVER L&JS BAND AND LJS CUMBERLAND STEM
Excellent | Mint in Box | Prime Condition
It's a shame when any pipe carver retires, but Les Wood has been the top quality British pipemaker for many years. And we will unfortunately never see Ferndown production again. This particular piece is now what I consider to be a top tier quality "vintage" Les Wood / Ferndown.
After he left Dunhill he made pipes under the name "L. Wood" and "Elwood" before creating his flagship Ferndown line.
This classic big red Bent Bulldog is an absolute gem, I've always felt Les made fantastic smooth finish pipes! He also made the best saddle stems ever, and the best Cumberland stems in the business. Since he made his reputation as a silversmith at Dunhill, the silver work is always stellar.
Over 6" long, it feels amazing in hand, about a Group 6 with beautifully formed bowl, thick walls and a healthy chamber.
The shank is adorned with a brilliant L&JS heavy ornate custom ordered Sterling Silver band adding class - it is not a repair band! Stem is original Cumberland Vulcanite with fishtail bit and the signature LJS logo.
Finish is a lovely dark red-brown smooth finish. A phenomenal piece from the great Les Wood, this one simply will not disappoint! It will enhance any collection!
