Book owner was a nurse in the hospital where Tregaskis was recuperating.-- and her name "Lt. Goldberg" is written at top of inscription page.
Tregaskis was at that time hospitalized at a U.S. Army hospital in North Africa and was awaiting transportation to the U.S. On November 22, 1943, while in the front lines with the Rangers on Mt. Corno in Italy, and under fire from the Germans, Tregaskis was severely wounded in the head by shrapnel. (See: "Invasion Diary" by Tregaskis, Random House, 1944, pgs 203-241)
