PHOTOGRAPHY NOTE: My photos aren\'t the best - tend to be kind of blurry. But, that is just the photos, not the actual items! LOL
In the past 30+ years of collecting and dealing in White House memorabilia, I\'ve probably bought and sold a couple dozen of the 1950 White House Renovation relics - bricks, gavels, desk pieces, pieces in Lucite, etc., etc. I know I own this piece, and am trying to sell it, but believe me when I say this is the most AMAZING piece of 1950 renovation material I\'ve ever seen, or even know of!
Simply put (but read on) it is a miniature tool chest. All told it consists of 14 individually carved/crafted pieces of wood that assemble into a carpenter\'s tool chest! (Can you believe that)!
Lets start at the outside,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
There is an outerbox that measures about 3 1/4\" wide, by 1 5/8\" tall, and 1 3/8\" front to back. This outer box has a removeable lid, on the top of which is an inset original 18thcentury hand made White House nail, along with a couple of carved designs in two of the corners.
On the front of this outer box is a small brass plaque that reads: \"Original White House Material/ Removed in 1950\" with a small Presidential seal.
When you take off the lid, inside you find a tool tray (made of original wood), with a removeable lid, inside of which are 10 small tools, all hand carved/crafted from original White House wood.
An amazing small carved carpenters plane
A hammer
A wonderfully executed saw
A carpenter\'s level
Another amazing piece - a hand carved drill, with a brilliantly carved drill bit (all of wood)!
A t-square
A large mallet
An axe
A larger mallet
A cute little screwdriver!
Folks, if you want the best - here it is!!!! A RARE PURCHASING OPPORTUNITY
All the pieces appear to be in excellent condition.....................
(HISTORICAL NOTE: When Truman was redoing the White House, he added an upstairs balcony/porch. Since most people believed Dewey was going to beat Truman in the upcoming election, the porch got to be a point of criticism aimed at Truman - there is even a political button, something to the effect of: Truman is screwey to build a porch for Dewey. The reason I bring this up is because I find that fact- in combination with this carpenter\'s tool box - to be an interesting parallel).
